The East Coast Trail is one of the most amazing places to elope in Canada. The East Coast Trail encompasses over 300km of coastal trails, winding through towns, cities, and along the rugged coastline. Depending on where you’d like to go, you can see whales, sea stacks, fjords, and geysers. While some of the trails can be challenging, there are many simple easy paths (that yes, you can do in a wedding dress) with epic views of the Atlantic, as well as the city of St. John’s. This couple planned a simple and elegant elopement on the East Coast Trail in Newfoundland and Labrador. They decided to plan their elopement so that they went on two hikes, one in the city (Sugarloaf Trail) and one on the coast (Torbay Point), followed by a romantic dinner for just the two of them. It was such a cozy and intimate way to tie the knot.
Our first stop was Sugarloaf trail overlooking Quidi Vidi, a fishing village in the heart of St. John’s. It’s an adorable trail just minutes from downtown and gives great views out over the village.
It was a classic St. John’s day, with the sun trying to peek out through the fog!
After their jaunt around the harbour, we drove to the next trailhead in Torbay, where we met their officiant Craig Murphy and and walked through the woods to the ceremony location on the cliff.
They had their ceremony overlooking Torbay Point. Craig, their officiant, played their favourite music from Lord of the Ring and they had their first dance right after they said I do – such a sweet touch.
After the ceremony we walked around the point and took in the views of the cliffs and ocean for a little bit while they soaked in the giddiness of being married. It was a simple, perfect day.
